Rome (Italy), July 10 – To bring to birth "together" – the General Council, Provincials, and all those involved in Universities – a common (synergistic) program involving all Salesian University Level Institutions (IUS) for the next three years (up to 2001), has been the first invitation made by Fr. Carlos Garulo, Delegate of the Rector Major for the IUS, to all participants of the International Meeting. In his Welcome Address, Fr. Garulo spoke also of quality service that is, at one and the same time, rooted firmly in tradition and open to the new and emerging challenges of the times. Even if the actual meeting has been preceded by a 1995 meeting in Brasilia, now it aims at drawing up a "Common Plan of Action for the Promotion of the IUS."The plan must spring from a lively and in-depth debate on the part of all the participants gathered at La Pisana, with the end in mind of coming to a consensus on issues of importance. This is, in fact, the expectation of the Generalate.
